Puede parecer una absurdidad o una genialidad, lo que es cierto es que cuando vemos este museo dedicado al te, nos produce una sensación de no saber qué decir o cómo expresar lo que pensamos.

Bueno, pues en la región china de Meitan encontramos este original museo del te, un enorme edificio de casi 74 metros de altura en forma de tetera que tiene que ser observado desde la distancia para apreciar su singularidad.

It might be odd or genius, but the truth is that when we see this museum, entirely dedicated to tea, it produces in us a feeling of not knowing what to say or how to express our thoughts out.

The thing is that in the Chinese region of Meitan, we can find this original museum dedicated to this milenary plant, it´s a tea bolier shaped building of almost 74 metres high that needs to be observed from a distance in order to appreciate its singularity.

Sigurdur Hjartarson es el fundador y propietario del Museo Falológico en Islandia, que ofrece a los visitantes del mundo entero una extensa colección del órgano de reproducción masculino.

El número de muestras sigue creciendo considerablemente. Y puede haber una novedad, puesto que no cuenta con miembros de humanos. De hecho, cuatro hombres han prometido donarle el suyo cuando mueran. La colección, que comenzó en 1974 con el pene de un toro, actualmente cuenta con un total de 261 miembros conservados de cerca de 90 especies distintas.

El más grande pertenece a un cachalote, y tiene un peso de 70 kilogramos y 1,7 metros. El más pequeño es de un hámster, que mide tan solo 2 milímetros y debe ser visto con una lupa. Una especie que no se encuentra, y que llama la atención por su ausencia, es el homo sapiens, aunque esto puede historia dentro de poco, ya que un alemán, un americano, un islandés y un británico le han prometido donar sus órganos después de la muerte.

Para convencerles, Hjartarson le dijo, por ejemplo, al donante Islandés, de 93 años, que teniendo un su pene en la colección le podría traer fama mundial, ya que fue un conocido mujeriego su juventud.

The Icelandic Phallological Museum in Húsavík, Iceland (formerly in Reykjavík) is a museum devoted to phallology. As of July 2006, the museum houses 245 specimens displayed like hunting trophies, embalmed in formaldehyde, or dried in display cases. The museum attempts to collect penis specimens from every mammal in Iceland, including several species that are endangered or currently extinct in Icelandic waters.

Sigurður Hjartarson, a former teacher of history at an institute in Reykjavík, is the founder (since 1974, when he was 63 years old) and current director of the museum, which also exhibits a few specimens from mammals not living in Iceland, as well as folkloric specimens (alleged elves, trolls, sea monsters, etc.) and penis-themed art.

Although the museum does not yet have a Homo sapiens specimen, in the interest of advancing phallological knowledge, a patron (Páll Arason, born in 1915 and currently 93 years old) has donated, presumably posthumously, an affidavit for his penis.

Esto no se trata de un museo extraño, pero sí se trata de una rareza tecnologíca que ocupa su trono como monumento a mantener.

Es una reliquia de una época en las que las cosas se hacían para durar: una bombilla en Livermore (California) lleva 107 años encendida, un récord mundial, y hoy es una de las principales atracciones turísticas de la ciudad. Se trata además de uno de los primeros ejemplares de una tecnología en extinción, pues las bombillas tal y como las conocemos van siendo sustituidas por soluciones energéticas más eficientes como las lámparas con OLED o las bombillas de bajo consumo

La bombilla de Livermore ha iluminado durante más de un millón de horas la estación de bomberos de Livermore-Pleasanton y aunque su potencia es muy baja -sólo 4 vatios- para los bomberos de la comunidad simboliza el valor de estar de servicio 24 horas al día.

"Cada día vienen varios grupos a verla, puede decirse que es un monumento de la ciudad ", dijo a EFE Brandt Jorgenson, miembro de este cuerpo de bomberos, que ha instalado una cámara web para que los internautas comprueben que la bombilla no se apaga nunca.

La "bombilla centenaria", como se la conoce en EEUU, ha entrado en el libro Guiness de los récords y superado la anterior marca en poder de una bombilla tejana encendida por primera vez en 1908. "Yo creo que el secreto de nuestra bombilla es cómo está fabricada", dijo Jorgerson. "Además, nunca se enciende ni se apaga con lo que se elimina el calentamiento".

La bombilla fue fabricada por la hoy desaparecida Shelby Electric y su filamento de carbono está perfectamente aislado por la ampolla de vidrio. El filamento opera en vacío y no en un espacio relleno de algún gas noble, como las bombillas que conocemos hoy.

Cuando la encendieron por primera vez, iluminaba una arcaica estación de bomberos donde los coches iban aún tirados por caballos El objetivo era permitir que los bomberos pudieran encender sus lámparas de queroseno cuando se producía una emergencia por la noche.

Durante los años 50 y 60 varias generaciones de bomberos la utilizaron como blanco para prácticas de baloncesto y otros deportes, afortunadamente con escasa puntería. Hasta los años 70, cuando la prensa local empezó a interesarse por la lámpara incandescente, los bomberos no se percataron de su valor histórico.

Aunque las autoridades de Livermore aseguran con orgullo que ha estado siempre encendida durante estos 107 años, la bombilla estuvo en realidad apagada durante 22 minutos en 1976, cuando el cuerpo de bomberos trasladó su sede.

Según contaron los bomberos de la localidad al diario Los Angeles Times, el traslado requirió un convoy policial y la habilidad del electricista oficial del ayuntamiento, que construyó un caja especial de madera para transportar la bombilla y su casquillo.

Cuando volvieron a conectarla, no se encendió y todos contuvieron la respiración pensando que había sido un error trasladarla...hasta que el electricista accionó un interruptor y la luz anaranjada y tenue de la bombilla volvió a iluminar la sala.

In these uncertain times, it's nice to know that somewhere in this land there is a light bulb that has burned consistently for more than 100 years. Seriously. The 4-watt light, currently installed in a Livermore, Calif., fire station, has its own Web site, complete with history, photo gallery and, of all things, a 'bulbcam.'

The Centennial Light is a four-watt, hand-blown, carbon-filament, common light bulb manufactured in Shelby, Ohio, by the Shelby Electric Compan in the late 1890s; many just like it still exist and can be found functioning.According to Zylpha Bernal Beck, the bulb was donated to the Fire Department by her father, Dennis Bernal in 1901. Bernal owned the Livermore Power and Water Company and donated the bulb to the fire station when he sold the company. That story has been supported by firefighter volunteers of that era.

The bulb's history is difficult to ascertain, although evidence suggests the bulb has hung in at least four locations. It was originally hung in 1901 in a hose cart house on L Street, then moved to a garage in downtown Livermore used by the fire and police departments. When the fire department consolidated, it was moved again to a newly constructed City Hall that housed the unified departments. Its unusual longevity was first noticed in 1972 by reporter Mike Dunstan. After weeks of interviewing people who had lived in Livermore all their lives, he wrote "Light Bulb May Be World's Oldest", published in the Tri-Valley Herald. Thus began the public's interest in the bulb.

The article came to the attention of Charles Kuralt of the TV program On the Road with Charles Kuralt. Kuralt contacted Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley's Believe It or Not, and General Electric who all confirmed it as the longest-lasting bulb known in existence. In 1976, the fire department moved to Fire Station #6 with the bulb; the bulb's cord was severed for fear that unscrewing it could damage it. It was deprived of electricity for only ten minutes during the transfer, which was made in a specially designed box and with full firetruck escort. An electrician was on hand to install the bulb into the new fire station's emergency generator. In 2001, the bulb's 100th birthday was celebrated with a community barbecue and live music.

As of 2006, the bulb has been continuously lit for 30 years.

The bulb is cared for by the Centennial Light Bulb Committee, a partnership of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, Livermore Heritage Guild, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, and Sandia National Laboratories. The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department plans to house and maintain the bulb for the rest of its life, regardless of length. When it does go out, they have no plans for it. Ripley's Believe it or Not! has requested it for their museum.

The bulb's long life has been attributed to its low power, near continuous operation, and dedicated power supply.

As of May 10, 2008, the bulb was still illuminated.
